Bob King is a twenty-four year
old law student at Syracuse University. He was born and raised in
upstate New York, about twenty miles east of Rochester. He was a
three sport athlete in high school and captain of his college soccer
team. He began sailing at the 60th Anniversary Lightning
regatta in Skeneateles, where he crewed for his uncle, Jed Dodge.
Since then he has been a regular in the Central New York District.
He has also sailed in several midwinter, national and international
events in a Lightning. Last year Bob began skippering after several
years of crewing. He campaigned Jim MacIntosh’s boat, Blue Jacket
XI, for most of the season.

Bill Healy, age twenty, studies
economics at Hobart College in Geneva, New York. He has been a
member of Hobart’s sailing team for the past three years, including
2003 when Hobart claimed the collegiate national championship. Bill
traces his sailing roots to Sodus Bay Junior Sailing Association and
the Lightning class. He sailed his first Lightning North American
Championship in 2000 at age fourteen and his first Lightning World
Championship a year later, both with skipper Bob Wardwell. Bill is
also a recognized ski racer, having won a state championship in high
school and now anchoring Hobart’s ski team. |
Sarah Costich, age twenty, is in her third year
studying landscape architecture at the State University of New
York’s Colllege of Environmental Science and Forestry. She is also
a campus leader of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Sarah is a native of Rochester, but spends her summers in Sodus
Point. She began sailing in Sodus at Sodus Bay Junior Sailing
Association, where she is now an instructor. In high school she
competed as a member of the McQuaid/Mercy sailing team. She became
the captain of the Syracuse University sailing team in 2006. She has
become an active Lightning sailor over the past year, first crewing
for Bob Wardwell, then sailing her first Southern Circuit with Bob
King. |
