COACH KELLY

Last month in his column President Faude introduced the new Lightning Coach, Kelly D. Williams, Jr. By the time this is printed Coach Kelly will have visited the Mid-Continent Regatta at Carlyle, Fleet 135 at Mobile, Fleet 62 at New Orleans, Delta Sailing Association Fleet 274, Fleet 262 at Old Hickory, Catawba Fleet 365 near Charlotte, and the Dixie District Championship hosted by our new Fleet #508 at Solomon's Island, MD.

Next month he is already scheduled for: Severn Sailing Association Fleet 329, Potomac Fleet 50, Susquehana Fleet 253, Sassafras Fleet 314, Lavallette Fleet 104; Orient Fleet 506 is advertising Kellyıs visit in the local paper to lure prospective members to the yacht club; Southampton Fleet 431, Cedar Point Fleet 126, Nyack Fleet 75; Chelsea Fleet 39 is bringing in the local boy scout troop as well as some "old salts" from the yacht club to drum up enthusiasm in the Lightning again; Riverton Fleet 228, Nockamixon Fleet 491; he'll also be visiting the summer junior sailing camps at Nashville and at Carlyle. And he'll be at the 60th Anniversary Regatta at Skaneateles. We still have a few days open, too.

We are very busy working on Kelly's schedule. The goal is to have him visit at least 40 clubs this summer. If you think your fleet would be interested in having Coach Kelly come in to do a seminar, please contact the Class office. We can send you some introductory information as well as a "Request for Sailing Clinic" application.

The Coach Program is designed to promote better Lightning sailing and fleet growth. Kelly can coach good racers to be better racers, encourage the fleet sailors to enter a regatta, prepare the beginner sailors to enter a race, and convince the novice that they really DO need to get into a boat - especially a Lightning. Coach Kelly and the program are an incentive to get people to come on down to the club and get into a Lightning.
