WOMEN'S,
JUNIORS' AND MASTERS' NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Day One: Light
and shifty with big holes. And HOT. The Juniors and Masters headed out for a
10:30 start, then waited an hour for the wind to start a 5-leg windward/leeward.
After the Masters finished, they headed in; 7 of the boats (and/or their crews)
were going back out in the later afternoon for the Women's race. The Juniors got
shortened to 4 legs, then waited for both the Women and the wind to come on back
out. Better wind in the afternoon for the
Women/Junior 5-leg windward/leeward race, although it was getting lighter again
toward the end.
Day Two just going out: not nearly as hot after thunderstorms came through the area
during the steak dinner last night. Wind looks better from shore so far.
Yep, better wind, and even better in the afternoon. Masters and Juniors had some
holes to avoid in the morning. They started at 330 degrees and finished at 30
degrees. After about an hour postponement, Women and Juniors went out in almost
true east with no real holes.
Day Three in
postponement as of 8:30am. Race Chairman Wardwell is pacing the docks. More
later when it happens...
Oh, well. 12:30 and no wind. And no promise of it either. The results as of
yesterday are now final.

Race One Notes: SUPER comeback, Colin. After hitting the starting pin
and doing his turns, Colin sailed around the holes and through the fleet for the
bullet.
Race Two Notes: George Fisher led the way, at one point (from shore) leading by
about a third of a leg. Again, Colin sailed super-duper, cutting the final
margin to only about 10 boatlengths.

Notes on Race One: Great comeback for Kathy Connell after an OCS. SUPER
sailing from "Free Beer Yesterday" - I think they led wire to wire.
Hey Amy - don't listen to that foredeck lady (me) anymore (who told her to sail
into that big hole on the left and lost 6 boats).
Notes on Day Two: Mandy turned it on this time. Kathy Connell nipped her heels,
but Jonette Werley got in between them.
