Sailing on the ocean side of Wrightsville Beach [Wilmington, NC], the race committee ran four races on Saturday in perfect wind conditions after abandoning one race to wait on the sea breeze. Former champion, Jim Harris, posted an impressive 3-2-3-1 to finish the day only two points behind Ruhlman. Expecting light winds on Sunday morning, the fleet was greeted with clouds, rough seas and 12 knots of breeze. We all got out to the course and managed to get started. Halfway though the second beat, the wind died, the sun came out, and the race committee shortened the race. Ruhlman had his first bullet of the day. The sea breeze filled in for a second race which also went to Ruhlman. Regatta over. It was two great days of racing. We had Greg Fisher in for a clinic on Friday and that made the weekend even better. Thanks to Pierce Barden and the Wrightsville fleet for a great weekend. Special thanks to Chris and Ellie Stone for hosting a great reception Friday night. 2004 SELD Championships |
