Scott Anderson of Dallas came on strong in the final two races to pass
Larry Frost and Cal Herman to win the 2005 Juby Wynne Regatta in a
tie-breaker, while Larry won the 2005 Southern District Championship as
the top finisher from the district. The regatta marked the return to the
Lightning for Cal, who was a Lightning mainstay in past years and looked
like he hadn't missed a beat winning the first two races. The first three
races on Saturday were held in light to medium fluky breezes. Sunday's
race began in hiking breeze and small whitecaps but eased during the race.
The final race was cancelled due to the approach of a thunderstorm which
hit as the fleet entered the harbor but fortunately there were no
incidents. The next regatta on the District schedule is the Lightning
Invitational to be held July 16-17 at Pass Christian Yacht Club, the first
of three back-to-back weekend races at PCYC. |
