  1. What sailing conditions can I expect at Mission Bay?

    July sailing conditions in the San Diego area are typically ideal for Lightnings. Winds average 8 to 12 knots, with 12-16 knot gusts and 6-8 knot lulls. Boats will likely be tested in a range of conditions, since wind speed typically starts below average and increases throughout the day. Water conditions will vary as well, usually starting relatively flat and chop increasing as racing progresses.


  2. Are their reasonable-cost places to stay in San Diego in July?

    Yes. Here are some examples:

  3. Will there be fun things for my family to do while I’m racing or to enjoy after racing?

    Yes, there are many things to do for all ages and interests. MBYC is a wonderful place to hang out and has a bay beach, just suited to young children. But if you want to venture out, here’s just a sample of things to do:


  4. How do I qualify for this regatta?

    Each US and Canadian entry qualifies by registering in their respective District Championship regatta. The Executive Committee has announced a 1:1 quota.


  5. How can I coordinate with others to share boat-shipping costs?
