The 3rd bi-weekly String Theory Challenge
July 28, 2004

by Jeff Storck.

Well last nights Heineken Challenge was both a bust and a big success.  Here is what happened: I got down there at 5:15 to get ready. There was NO  wind. I mean not a breath. The water was like glass. Ever the optimist, I  rigged and splashed the boat and waited for the other competitors. Soon, Joe Warren, Nabeel, Rob, Pat, and Red came down. Nabeel and Pat splashed and we all proceeded to sit around on the dock, drink beer and wait for the wind to come up. We were joined by crew - Lizbet, Russ, Cathy F, Cathy B, Red, newcomer Ross, Jose, Ian, and Craig (I don't think I missed anyone). This went on for quite a while, so long in fact we ran out of beer and broke into the evenings prize - one 12 pack of Heineken. Yes we drank the prize.  At 7:00, just when we were about to pull the boats and move on, a nice little breeze came up out of the south. It was a little too late to get the other boats in the water and start a race, so we all piled into the 3 boats and went for a day sail. The breeze built to 7-8 knots. It was beautiful.

So the score:

String Theory 0
Challengers 0

The Heineken Challenge will return (with a fresh 12 pack) in 2 weeks on August 11. Maybe we'll have enough wind to actually get a race off! See you then.
