Tips for Running a District Championship

1) Membership is required.
...(a) ILCA Individual Membership:
.....EVERYONE who competes in a District Championship MUST be an ILCA member (including every crew). See Membership.
...(b) Fleet Dues:
.....Every skipper who competes in a District Championship must be affiliated with a Fleet in good standing with the ILCA or must have received permission from the Executive Committee to sail as an "unaffiliated" member. Fleet Dues are $25.00 (payable to ILCA).

2) According to the Measurement Specifications:
"Measuring at a District Championship is required - not optional. Measuring sails, weighing boats and checking safety equipment is considered the absolute minimum."
...(a) Check the Measurement Checks as published on ILCA website.
...(b) Each Lightning should have a Measurement Certificate or colored card (valid cards are purple and blue). (Copies of the Measurement Certificates can be obtained from the Class Office for $5.00)
...(c) Sample measurement check sheet.

3) Make use of the
...(a) Rules Governing All District Championships
...(b) Sample Sailing Instructions
...(c) Instructions to Race Committee

4) District Commodores should sign and hand out the North American Championship Entry Forms to all who qualify. The Class Office sends an appropriate number of entry forms to each District Commodore based on the quota - the number of entries a District is allotted to send to the NAs. If more people want to try to go to the NAs than the District is allowed, please contact the Class Office. We will do everything we can to help you increase the quota for your District (by increasing memberships).

5) District Commodore should encourage ALL women, juniors and masters to compete in the Women's, Juniors' or Masters' North American Championships. The District Commodore has some entry forms. This form is also published in Flashes and is available from the Class Office.

6) After the District Championship, the District Commodore should ensure that the following is sent to the Class Office:
...a) Complete results, including crew names;
...b) Any Measurement Forms completed;
...c) Copy of Sailing Instructions;
...d) List of those who have indicated an interest in going to the North Americans;
...e) Any membership dues money which you have collected, along with names and addresses of those who paid;
...f) Any Fleet Dues, if any collected.

If you have any questions, please contact the ILCA Office

THANK YOU!!!
