On Saturday 10th May the Nigerian Lightning Nationals were held at Lagos
Yacht Club. Fears had mounted as previous two days had given perfect weather which is                                                          normally followed by violent thunderstorms (these arrived today 11th).
However day opened fine and clear with a good breeze giving excellent
sailing conditions although precautions had to be taken to prevent
dehydration. (Temp varied throughout the day between 90 - 95deg F and boats
stayed on the water continuously)
Twenty nine boats were on the water which was a terrific turnout.
Five races were completed. (not without the usual excitements of one
capsize, collision or two and various gear failures) Commercial shipping
within the harbour also made for one or two interesting moments!!!
Of particular note is that nine woodies competed, not one under forty five
years old. (had better not mention how many survived the day).

A great day was had by all followed by prize giving and curry in the
clubhouse. Some members competed to see how quickly they could replace the
fluid lost during the day (all for the sake of health of course)
