This year's Squam Lake Lightning Regatta was a big disappointment to organizers and entrants alike. A great fleet of 16 boats showed up but the wind blew too hard for two days. One race in marginal conditions on Saturday turned out to be the only racing for the weekend. Only eight boats finished, two of them without jibs. Nobody flew a spinnaker. Since something needed to be done with the trophies, the one race was declared to be the entire regatta. Fleet 332 officials have promised 10-15 knots for the entire regatta weekend in 2004.
