The St Petersburg YC is once again looking forward to hosting the Lighting Class as part of the 2026 Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series.  With over 150 boats already registered, this is shaping up to be a great event.

SPYC, along with Sailing World has made some significant changes to this year’s event, including the addition of a 5th circle to allow for an even higher level of racing.  The Lightnings are slated to race on Course B northeast of downtown along with the J22 and J24 classes. In addition this regatta is now recognized as the Lightning Mid-Winter Championship!

There has been a NOR Amendment posted stating our racing start time on Friday, February is noon like it has been in past years. This gives those that get in late on Thursday a little extra time to rig.

We currently have 21 boats registered and are the largest fleet represented so far! AND we are expecting several others! If you are planning to sail and have not registered yet, please do ASAP! Note a $75 late fee begins after January 15th. Please be sure to complete the registration process, including registration fee payment by January 15th.

Plans can be arranged to leave your boat in St Pete between the Feb and March (Winter Championship) Regattas. Contact Laura in the Class Office to make your reservation, boat storage cost is $175 cash or zelle to the ILCA. Drop off or Drop and Go options available.
