Believe or not the North Americans in San Diego are only a month and a half away!  It’s time to sail the districts, participate in local regattas and make plans to attend major events.  16 teams from 6 countries have already made their plans to attend the Youth Worlds in Greece.  The 80^th Anniversary Regatta has reached capacity (there is a waiting list), people are starting to sign up for the NAs and the WJMs in Pontiac looks to be a super fun event. Please do the organizers of these and other events a huge favor and register as early as possible. This will help them plan and make the event even more successful and worth your while.

My team made its way to our first regatta of the summer season last weekend, and it was great to catch up with our old friends, and to meet new sailors. The highlight of the weekend was hull #291 (built in 1940) joining us on the racecourse! I encourage you all to take the time, when at an event, to find a team that you aren’t familiar with and to talk to them. You may be surprised by how much you can learn.

If you are looking for the perfect way to end your summer season, join Fleet 187/me for the Brotz Regatta in Sheboygan August 25-26.  Bacon, beer, brats and boats!  We are capping registration at 100 boats so sign up early!  My main goal as president is to get more people out sailing their Lightnings, whatever that means to each individual sailor. So, go sailing, and I’ll see you on the water!
