WJMs-Best AP On Shore Ever!

I was going to write my own message but I think the note below from our esteemed Chief Measurer says it all.  The members of Pontiac Yacht club could not have been a more generous and gracious hosts.  The entire class would like to extend our gratitude. I really hope that this WJMs has opened the eyes of some class members that don't normally travel to regattas or are nervous that they don't belong or won't feel welcome at an event.  Packing up your boat and travelling to meet new people and experience new venues is great fun, especially when the Lightning Class is Involved!
Todd

I would like to second everything that Todd says in his message and add that I have never in 61 years of sailing seen a regatta like this one. The 2 days of racing bookended a spontaneous day long multi-generational party above and beyond anything I have ever experienced.

Halfway through the second day, I was on the phone with Lightning sailors back home. “How are the WJM’s?” They asked. “Fantastic!” I replied. “The water volleyball pickup game is in round 8, the corn hole tournament is underway, all the chairs are off the beach with people cooling their legs in the lake, the Juniors are working a Jenga tower 5 feet high, the Mark Set Bot demonstration is fascinating, I can’t wait to drive one of the things, the beer tent is open and and there is more food than an army of juniors could eat in a week. The sun is out, the water is warm and the shade is cool. I’ve made 20 new friends -It’s a fantastic day!”

“What about the sailing?, they asked”

“Sailing?” I replied, “Why would we do that! There’s no wind and we’re having too much fun for sailing. This is the best regatta ever!!”.

And it was. I can’t think of a better way to spend a glorious summer day than at PYC with the Lightning family. Your facility is fabulous and you know exactly what to do with it. I towed the boat over 6000 miles to attend the NAs and WJMs and would do it all over again for an event as much fun as yours was.

I would also like to commend the over 100 people that volunteered their time and talent to make this happen. They worked long and hard to make everything seem effortless, and I hope that they enjoyed the results as much as we did.
