Youth Worlds Update
The 2020 Youth Worlds is scheduled for June 28-July 1. Given the turmoil the world is in due to Covid-19 we have looked into our crystal ball and determined . . . . precisely nothing. The Organizing Authority and Class leadership have committed to making a go/no-go decision by April 15. Until then, we suggest that no non-refundable travel arrangements be made.
What will you see on the race course if and when this event occurs? You’ll see some very exciting, close racing between competitors of up to 8 countries from 3 continents. You’ll see on-the-water boat rotation during which the competitors bring their own sails from one boat to the next. Any Indy Car pit crew would be envious of the speed and care these sailors give to their own and borrowed equipment.
What will you see on shore? You’ll see chaperones and regatta organizers providing a safe, fun framework for 60 young sailors to renew and create friendships between competitors from across the globe. You’ll see memories being made that will create a bond to the Lightning Class that will last for many years to come. This is the foundation of our class!
Who do we expect? This is the list of skippers as we know it:
Argentina--TBD
Brazil--3 teams: Bernal, J. Hackerott, Peixotto
Canada--4 teams: S. Balanevsky, Halls, C. Robinson, Stoffman
Chile--1 team: Lorca
