WINTER MEETINGS!
Virtual/Remote Meetings
 
The Class now has the capability of holding the Virtual/Remote Meetings via ZOOM for up to 100 members. Since we were unable to hold the Governing Board and Annual Winter meetings in St Petersburg during the Winter Championships they have been re-scheduled.  
 
Governing Board Meeting - THIS Saturday, April 18th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time  (District Commodores, Vice Presidents, Executive Committee)
 
Annual Winter Meeting - Saturday, April 25th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time (Entire Membership)
 
Actual invitations with registration links, reports and agenda items for these meetings will be emailed out prior to the meetings.   
 
If any Fleets or Districts would like to utilize the Classes ZOOM Account and schedule a virtual meeting or get together please contact Laura in the Class Office: office@lightningclass.org
Harken Blockheads Lightning Youth World Championship

POSTPONED!

June 27- July 1, 2020

The Lightning Class Executive Committee and Youth Worlds Committee has determined that due to ongoing concerns over the corona virus, the AP flag for postponement has been raised on the 2020 Harken Blockheads Youth World Championship. The event will not be held in 2020 and the rescheduled dates will be announced in the months ahead as our options are clarified. 

This prestigious and highly anticipated event is an important one for our membership and this decision was made after careful deliberation.  We are incredibly grateful for the many hours our hosts in Sheboygan have dedicated to the planning of this event, the strong support from Harken and also for the great amount of interest we’ve seen from youth sailors in Lightning countries around the world.  As we better define this event’s postponement we will keep you updated.

2020 European Championship
CANCELED - 2020 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Nautathletic Club of Alexandroupolis and the Organizing Committee of Lightning European Championship 2020 (scheduled for 10-14 June 2020) has to announce the cancellation of the event due to Covid-19 crisis restrictions. The 2021 Event is scheduled to be held in the same location at a date TBA. 
POSTPONED - 2020 Atlantic Coast Championship
 
The 2020 ACC's at Wickford Yacht Club are currently postponed due to conditions and logistical issues brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. The organizing authority for the club and launching sites are unable to guarantee use of facilities and support for a July date. A tentative contingency plan has been passed on to the Executive Committee for discussion and a timely announcement will be on whether the event will be postponed or cancelled for 2020.

CANCELLED - Pymatuning Spring Classic
While we were holding on to the hope that mid-May might see a relief from coronavirus and socially distancing, we also want to do our part to ensure everyone is safe and healthy. An additional, unfortunate side effect of the outbreak is that many construction projects in Pennsylvania have been slowed or delayed, including our major bathroom remodel, and it is unlikely we’ll have use of our facilities before Memorial Day. We looked at alternate dates, but the ILCA calendar is quite full, and we don’t want to collide with other regattas, so there wasn’t a good alternative. Given all of that, we’ve made the decision that the regatta simply can’t go on. THE GOOD NEWS: We are more committed than ever to hosting an awesome WJM North American Championship from Aug 5th-8th!  Please join us!
