| Message from the President: Hugh Hutchison
After consultation with our host clubs and full consideration by the Executive Committee, I am disappointed to announce that the 2020 International Lightning Class North American Championships, the 2020 Lightning Women’s, Junior and Masters North American Championships and the 2020 Atlantic Coast Championships have been cancelled. The 2021 World Championships have been postponed as well.
The continuing lockdowns and social distancing requirements make it impossible to predict when competitive sailing in a multi-crew boat like ours will be permitted to resume.
Nevertheless, I am pleased to report that the Edgewater Yacht Club has agreed to host the rescheduled 2021 North American Championships, the Pymatuning Yacht Club will host the 2021 WJMs and the Carolina Yacht Club will also host the rescheduled ILCA World Championships.
More information will be published shortly as details are finalized but we wanted to let the Class know as soon as possible about these scheduling adjustments.
We clearly are disappointed to have to make these changes, but the health of our members is the obvious priority. | 8 Bells... Charlie Proctor
It is with a heavy heart we share the news of Charlie Proctor's passing. On Tuesday, May 5th he was involved in a bicycle accident that took his life. Charlie was just 19 days shy of his 28th birthday.
Charlie sailed a lot with his dad, Ched Proctor out of the CT/RI District and Cedar Point Yacht Club. In 2018 they won the North American Championship with other crew member Meredith Killion. (Photo Right)
Charlie loved adventure, the outdoors and life.

In Charlie’s memory, the family has established the Charlie Proctor Memorial Fund with the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition. MassBike works to improve the safety of roadways in the Boston area and across the state of Massachusetts. They are working closely with them to enact changes to the intersection where Charlie was killed, but unfortunately there are countless other dangerous intersections and roadways like this one. This fund will support work to improve the safety of roads and intersections around the state before someone else dies on them, and will work towards a future in which no other families need to suffer through the grief and terror that they have. | 8 Bells... Harry Robert Sindle
Harry Robert Sindle passed as dawn broke on Wilson Creek off the Ware River, in Gloucester, VA, April 24, 2020. It was the day before his 67th wedding anniversary to his wife Janet. He was surrounded by his family in his last 12 hours and passed with his wife and daughter by his side. He was 90 years old.
Born Oct 14, 1929 in Little Falls, NJ to Harold Lyman Sindle and Ruth Post Sindle, he began to sail at the age of 10, learning alongside his dad on the Jersey Shore. In the 1950's and 60's he was a nationally known sailor, winning major titles in the Lightning, Thistle, Comet, Flying Dutchman, and others. In the Flying Dutchman class he was the United States gold-medal winner in the Pan American Games (1959) and was on the 1960 US Olympic Sailing Team in Rome.
In 1963, wanting to move his growing family to a country setting, he left a small sailboat manufacturing company he co-owned (Siddons and Sindle) in Tom's River, NJ to come to Gloucester, VA to work as a sales rep for local sailing legend and designer of the Mobjack, Roger Moorma...
