8 Bells... William (Bill) Mauk
Bill Mauk
Bill was a longtime member of the Lightning Class from Miami, Florida. For decades he has been a fixture at all of the major Class championships, be they Worlds, North Americans or Districts, as well as innumerable regattas throughout the US. He served in leadership roles at many levels including Fleet, District and Governing Board. He had a deep interest in maintaining the international stature of the Class and was always striving to keep our non-US members well represented and included in the decision-making process. In furtherance of that interest, he served as the Lightning VP of the Pan Am Games up until last year when he passed on the torch to give others the opportunity to serve and better the Class. Bill was actively involved in organizing and promoting Florida regattas and was roundly recognized as the spark that kept Florida Lightning sailing flourishing. Bill will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Jo and the entire Mauk Family.

MASK UP!  The 2021 Southern Circuit is ON! 
With vaccines beginning to be distributed and extra COVID precautions in place the St Petersburg Yacht Club and the Savannah Yacht Club are welcoming us for the 2021 Southern Circuit. 

We realize that not everyone will feel comfortable traveling to these events and that is OK. Please do not feel like you are going to be missing out. We are expecting a smaller turnout than normal. In fact, St Petersburg YC is limiting the number of boats that can participate.  

The NOR link for St Pete is noted below. Registration will open on February 1st, at 10:00am Eastern, first come first serve via Yachtscoring Website. The NOR and registration link for the Deep South Regatta at the Savannah Yacht Club will be posted very soon. Note there will not be any limit in registration for Savannah.

Winter Championships
Wednesday- March 17 1800 Competitors’ Meeting via ZOOM, daily briefings at SC each morning of sailing

Saturday -March 20 1200-1600 Registration St Pete Sailing Center
Sunday -March 21 1000 Warning, first race of the day
Monday- March 22 1000 Warning, first race of the day
Tuesday - March 23 1000 Warning, first race of the day
Wednesday – March 24 1000 Warning, first race of the day, No Warning after 1500.  Awards 2 hours after racing, Sailing Center.

Thursday - March 25 Late afternoon/evening Registration 
Friday - March 26 - Racing
Saturday - March 27 - Racing, Awards to immediately follow.

Please be sure to submit your results with CREW NAMES to the Class Office. If you have a short summary and a few photos even better! If your regatta isn't listed here - be sure to add the event to the ILCA Event Calendar and send in results after the regatta!

The 2020 Canadians in Thunder Bay were cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. We are excited to instead host the 2021 Canadians in Thunder Bay. We encourage you all to come sail with us on Lake Superior in the 2021 Canadian Opens. Labour Day Weekend. Hope to see you all then! Sail the largest fresh water lake in the world. Great Fun. Great Competition.

Monthly E-mail Blasts on the 15th of each month. 

Deadline is 7 days prior to the e-mail date. 


During busier months (June, July and August) or as needed we will also add a second monthly blast on the 1st of each month.
