A Fabulous Summer, With More Sailing To Come

It was great to see over 40 boats at the Atlantic Coast Championship, the WJM's and the North American Championship. We had good breeze most of the time, fun parties, and top-level racing. Congratulations to all of winners, and thank you to all of the competitors, some of whom traveled great distances to compete. It was great to see so many new faces at these regattas.

The fun doesn’t have to stop just because it is getting chilly in North America. Last weekend, we had the return of the Bluenose to Nashville and all indications point to this regatta coming back in 2023! This weekend is King's Day Regatta in Jacksonville, and the Sanford Sailfest December 3-4 both in Florida.

While the North American focus moves South, the South American racing heats up. Planning for the South American Championship is well underway with racing set for December 3 through the 7th in Guaratuba, Brazil. This will be the next step on the road to qualification for the 2023 Pan Am games in Chile.

So, let’s keep sailing - either by finishing out 2022 strong or by making plans for 2023 events!

...We have taught each other important lessons and have pushed ourselves to be better. Part of why I applied for the grant was to introduce new people to the Lightning and I have been able to pull in and hook at least two new class members and have intrigued a few others...

... This summer I went from viewing the class as a collection of individuals with a passion for sailing to viewing it as a community of people who love to sail and improve and who love to help others sail and improve...
