Boat Grant Update July 2026

The Boat Grant program awards 3 or 4 teams of sailors a nearly new boat and sails, insurance, regatta and travel expenses, and a mentor for a season of Lightning racing. Goals for the boat grant program include having a supply of nearly new boats and sails; your donations are helping us to achieve that. We also want to see boat grant alums active in the Class for years after their award.
In 2026, the boat grant program purchased an almost new boat (15631) at a discount; this enabled us to award 4 boat grant teams in 2026. See the announcement of the teams here.
We have developed a Boat Grant logo, and have created stickers for each boat grant boat, which are being applied during the 2026 season.
Major donor Sandra Peterson More is sponsoring a brand-new boat. While waiting for our next new boat purchase, one of the boats in the fleet will be named Tenacity in honor of her father Dave Peterson, in a naming ceremony at the Marblehead Helly Hansen Sailing World regatta July 24-26.
