Good Day Lightning North Americans Sailors. Do You Know Where Your Vakaros Unit Is?
Some of this is designed to be repetitive. We’re all busy. A little reminding is never wrong.
First: Notice of Race - Amendment #1 has been posted on-line and amends Part 1 Rules, section 1.3 as follows:
1.RULES
1.3 Note “Document Governing All Sanctions Lightning Class Championships” has been modified by the Lightning Class Executive Committee Action dated April 22, 2026. Competitors are advised that no qualification series will be held and all boats will race in one championship fleet. In addition, the Executive Committee Action Dated June 1, 2026 will apply for this event. All races will be managed using Vakaros Race Sense software. This change mandates the use of Vakaros Race Sense hardware by all competitors. Vakaros rental units will be available through Vakaros at the estimated cost of $140 for the event. The rental link will be posted closer to the event. is: https://www.vakaros.com/products/racesense-atlas-2-rental?variant=48250684539094
The rental link provides a link to rent a Vakaros Atlas 2 unit. Note that competitors will be able to use a Varkaros - Edge OR Atlas 2 Unit (in Class compliant mode).
Next: Our friend Doug Wake informs me that exactly one unit has been rented. So unless you have a Vakaros Atlas 2 or an Atlas Edge, you need to borrow or buy or rent one.
We will be using the system in Lightning Class Mode. Translation: We will not be using DTL, we will be using the system to call the starting line and as a component in how we finish boats. Vakaros have rental units available. There will be Vakaros technical support available from the time you arrive. Please just make sure your unit is fully charged when you arrive, and that it is running the latest firmware.
Last: Understand this: WE WANT YOU TO COME AND SAIL. We are not blasé’ about this. Sheboygan Yacht Club actively positions itself as The Friendliest Club on Lake Michigan. Host club for the WMJs, South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee is also freakishly friendly. Show up—you can be the judge of who is friendlier. PLEASE COME AND SAIL.
