U32 Update July 2026

Initiative Description: The U32 Initiative focuses on strengthening the younger generation in the Class by creating fun, competitive events to boost camaraderie and connections among young sailors after aging out of junior and collegiate events.
This Quarter:
- Announced and opened registration for 2026 U32 Invitational Regatta at Charleston Yacht Club, Oct. 24-25th with event chairs Allison Hannigan, Sean Hannigan, and Ryan Davidson
- Accepted regatta bids for the 2027 U32 Invitational event and selected event host yacht club and dates (to be announced at 2026 event - stay tuned!)
- Arranged for U32 regatta subsidy offerings (50% of regatta fees) during the 2026 season
- Coordinated with Pipeline Program/Boat Grant Program to connect with U32 sailors with potential interest in boat ownership
- U32 success highlight: All top 5 boats at the Chicago Helly Hansen Regatta (including winning skipper Abbie Probst) had U32 sailors on the boat!
Next Quarter:
- Promote U32 access to sailing through regatta subsidies and logistical support
- Showcase U32 sailing during 2026 summer through social media updates and group communications
- Invite potential new Lightning sailors to 2026 U32 Invitational Regatta including recent college sailor graduates, past boat grant applicants, and yacht club promotions
- Sell U32 merchandise at major summer events
- Plan 2026 U32 Invitational Regatta including lining up loaner boats, housing, race committee, and event logistics
