NOTICE OF RACE

The organizing authority for Mark Madness Regatta is the Boyne City Yacht Club

1 - Rules —

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017-2020

1.1 – The following rules will be changed by the Sailing Instructions. Others rules may also be changed.

a) RRS 35 – Time limits will be established for each race.

b) RRS App A2 – Series Scores will be changed to allow one throw-out when six or more races have been completed.

c) RRS App A4 – Low Point System will be changed. Boats scored TLE (time limit expired) will be scored as last finisher plus one point.

 

1.2 Michigan Lighting Districts

The organizing authority for the Michigan Lightning District Championship is the International Lightning Class Association (ILCA). This regatta will be conducted under the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) for 2017-2020 as modified by the ILCA Rules including the Rules Governing All Lightning Class District Championships(ILCA\ District Championship Rules), and the Notice of Race (NOR) including any amendments to the NOR except any of those as altered by the Sailing Instructions (SI’s). This changes RRS 63.7.

This regatta is open to all boats of the International Lightning Class Association;

a. with an approved Measurement Certificate on file in the ILCA Office,

b. certified eligible by the Measurement Committee, and

c. displaying valid membership and mast decals.

In addition, the Skipper (Helmsman) must be a Life, Active, or Associate Member who meets the requirements as defined in the ILCA Constitution. Crew must be Active, Life, Crew, or Associate Members of the ILCA and shall be designated distinctly as Crew. ILCA dues will be collected during registration from competitors that are not currently members of the ILCA at the beginning of the event.

Boats from outside the Michigan District can compete for Regatta Awards, but they are not eligible for the

Michigan District Championship Award.

 

2 - Advertising — is permitted, with class advertising restrictions, and unless class rules do not permit, in accordance with ISAF regulation 20.

3 - Eligibility and Entry —

3.1 - Mark Madness Regatta is open to One Design boats of any length (min 4 boats/fleet), LMPHRF

Certification is not required.

Portsmouth rated boats of at least 16ft or longer, and mono hull boats of 19ft or longer.

3.2 - Entry deadline is June 21st, 2019 23:59. Enter at: yachtscoring.com

4 - Fees –

4.1-The completed entry application shall be accompanied by an entry fee. Payments may be mad via PayPal through Yacht Scoring yachtscoring.com

The entry fees are as follows: Regatta fee: $80

4.2 – US Sailing members receive a $5 discount.

5 – Schedule —

6 - Sailing Instructions — will be available at check in prior to the skipper’s meeting.

7 - Classification/Divisions —

7.1-PHRF fleets (Spinnaker and JAM) will consist of mono hulls with valid PHRF certificates

7.2-Non-displacement mixed fleets for boats such as Scows & Multihulls will be rated using Portsmouth Yardstick

7.3-One Design classes (5 or more) such as Lightnings, Scows, Melges 24’s, etc., will compete under their class rules.

7.4-Cruising mono hull boats not eligible for PHRF will be scored using Portsmouth Yardstick

8 - Venue — The Regatta site for Mark Madness will be the Boyne City Lighthouse pavilion and Lake Charlevoix. Course location for each race will be outlines in the Sailing Instructions.

9 - Courses — Windward/Leeward (W/L) and /or Triangles. Complete descriptions will be included in the Sailing Instructions. Lighting will be sailing out of Somerset Yacht Club

10 - Scoring — If five (5) or fewer races are completed the score for each boat will be the sum of her scores for all races sailed. If six (6) or more races are completed, one race will be discarded from each boat’s score. This changes RRS A2. A minimum of one race shall be completed for an overall trophy.

11 - Prizes —

11.1 - Trophies will be awarded to Class winners.

11.2 - Flags will be awarded to the top three in each Class, based on overall Regatta scoring.

11.3 - Additional Sponsor prizes may be distributed at the awards presentation, if available.

12 – Refund Policy — Refund Requests will be honored when requested in writing and received prior to May 31st.

13 – Safety – All boats are recommended to carry an operating VHF radio.

The Boyne City Yacht Club reserves the right to amend this Notice in accordance with RRS. Any amendment of this Notice will be posted on the Mark Madness website and http://yachtscoring.com
