Hugh Hutchison
Hugh Hutchison: President's Message
Like all other sailors, the plans and expectations of the Lightning Class have been disrupted by the COVID-19 virus. A number of us expected to be in St. Pete by now for the first leg of the Southern Circuit and to conduct our Class Mid-Winter Governing Board and General Meetings. I have no doubt but that the decision to cancel the Circuit was correct...
...In the interim, plans are being developed to conduct our mid-winter meetings remotely. We certainly hope that as many of you as possible will participate.

Check in regularly on our website and other social media channels to keep up to date on ILCA activities...

Virtual/Remote Meetings

The Class now has the capability of holding the Virtual/Remote Meetings via ZOOM for up to 300 members. Since we were unable to hold the Governing Board and Annual Winter meetings in St Petersburg during the Winter Championships they have been re-scheduled.

Governing Board Meeting - Saturday, April 18th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time
Annual Winter Meeting - Saturday, April 25th at 10:00 AM Eastern Time

Reports or agenda items for these meetings are due to the Class Office by Friday, April 10th, end of day. Actual invitations with registration links will be sent out prior to the meetings. At this point please SAVE THE DATE!

If any Fleets or Districts would like to utilize the Classes ZOOM Account and schedule a virtual meeting or get together please contact Laura in the Class Office: office@lightningclass.org

2020 Team Vasilion

2020 Boat Grant Recipients Announced!

The ILCA’s Boat Grant program begins its 14th season by announcing three grant teams. All 2020 recipients are/were members of strong collegiate sailing teams, underscoring the class’s focus on encouraging young sailors to continue their involvement in one design racing outside their college racing.

Lolly Vasilion (Burlington, VT), Jack Murphy (Arlington, MA) and Julian Fraize (Cleveland, OH) and their teammates have an exciting summer ahead of them. Vasilion (Team photo above) shares: “We are excited to experience this level of competition outside of collegiate racing… I feel incredibly lucky to have assembled a team of competitive women who are eager to get on the water and can’t wait to see what the Lightning Class has in store for us!”
